It’s
time to tune those singing voices, blow out the
birthday candles and cut the cake: Seniors’ Resource
Center is celebrating its 30th anniversary of
coordinated community-based care to Colorado’s
older adults this year.
The celebration was in full swing as of Friday,
Jan. 25, when Amy Sherman, president of the West
Chamber in Jefferson County, and West Chamber
board member Nancy Crego presented Seniors’ Resource
Center with the first-ever Non-Profit of the
Year Award at the chamber’s 2008 Chairman’s
Inaugural Celebration luncheon, held at the Sheraton
Denver West in Lakewood.
In making the award, Ms. Crego said that the
sellout-audience of more than 250 Chamber members
and supporters would continually be thankful
for the vital role that non-profit organizations
play in helping seniors live more independently
in their communities, exemplified by the local
work of Seniors’ Resource Center.
Seniors’ Resource Center was formed in
1978 with the support of the Jefferson County
Council on Aging, the Jeffco Retired and Senior
Volunteer Program (RSVP). More than 100,000 people
have been served through the organization’s
Adult Day & Respite Services, In-Home Care,
Transportation, Care Management, referrals to
community partners, and Job Training programs.
The celebration of Seniors’ Resource Center’s
three decades of service will continue with two
major special events in May and September, boasting
the theme, “Celebrating Our
Past – Building Your Future.”
“We are thrilled that Seniors’ Resource
Center has blossomed over the past 30 years to
extend an array of coordinated care services
in 10 counties across the Denver metro region
and in the western foothills, to meet the demographic
spike in Colorado’s older adult population,” said
John Zabawa, President/CEO.
A volunteer celebration at the Jefferson County
Fairgrounds on May 8 and a gala fundraiser at
the Belmar Center featuring Art Linkletter on
Sept. 27 will spotlight Seniors’ Resource
Center supporters. The September gala will feature
renowned broadcast pioneer Art Linkletter, best
known as host of two of the longest-running shows
in United States television history: House
Party and People are Funny.
“Seniors’ Resource Center’s
ability to adequately assist in maintaining the
independence of 12,000 older adults each year
through our services is a direct reflection of
the consistently impressive efforts and accomplishments
of past and present volunteers,” said Kathleen
Stapleton, chairman of its board of directors.
