Endowment Fund
What is an Endowment?
An endowment is a permanent
fund established by a charitable organization to secure long-term financial stability. As
our endowment fund grows, it will provide a permanent and predictable
source of income for Seniors’ Resource Center. The endowment
fund will enable us to maintain and grow our programs so we may
serve more seniors in our community.
Why is an Endowment So Important?
An endowment fund creates a legacy for the future. Demand for
services for seniors is increasing steadily. Currently, we are
unable to keep pace with their increased needs. Many of our programs
have waiting lists.
The demand will continue to grow. It is predicted that by the
year 2020, one in four Colorado residents will be over the age
of sixty, a 127.9 percent increase from today. Research shows
that older adults want access to programs and services that allow
them to live healthy and independent lives, staying in their
own homes for as long as possible.
Different Ways to Give to our Endowment Fund
Many
kinds of assets (appreciated securities, real estate, cash and
more) can be given to an organization and then invested to generate
income in perpetuity. A bequest from a will is
also a common way to give to this fund. Either way, all
income from this fund is used by Seniors’ Resource Center
to pay for senior services while the principle, the original
donation, remains untouched. And because SRC is part of
the Enterprise Zone you are eligible for an additional 25% state
tax credit.
How Can I Create a Named Endowment Fund?
Create a named endowment fund to honor an individual, family
member, friend or loved one as a tribute or memorial. Donors
will receive special recognition for endowment gifts and be invited
to participate in and receive recognition at community events
celebrating the success of the endowment challenge.
