SRC is proud to have provided services to thousands of older adults and their caregivers in the metro area last year – and for almost 40 years running. Our services have continued to expand. Between just 2013 and 2014, the number of people served by SRC increased by 7%.
That’s impressive, but what is even more impressive is that this only begins to meet the need. For everyone we serve, many others have to wait. Currently:
- Chores Services (e.g. deep cleaning, yard work) are at capacity and the wait is 3 months. Chores has a waitlist of over 15 clients trying to get help sooner.
- At any time, around 125 individuals are on the waiting list for homemaker and/or personal care in home services. The wait is anywhere from18-36 months.
- Transportation services are at capacity and personal trips have been temporarily suspended in favor of critical needs trips (medical/dental, grocery trips).
- Trip denials are hitting an all-time high, sometimes up to 300-400 a month.
The population of older adults in Colorado is growing faster than the rest of our population. This is a crucial issue, impacting the quality of life of every aging adult, as well as the many caregivers who support loved ones at home. It ultimately impacts us all.
We need your support to serve more people in our community! You can help right now by supporting us on Colorado Gives Day. Colorado Gives Day is set aside each December for nonprofits across the state to leverage our collective power to reach people. In addition to coordinating efforts, the organizers of the event also offer an incentive fund and prizes that increase what we can raise.
The money raised during Colorado Gives Day enables SRC to provide services like transportation, in home care, chores, care management and day center respite to more older adults in our community. You can schedule your gift starting November 1 up through Colorado Gives Day on December 8. Don’t delay! Donate now and spread the word!
