“In the time between when my husband died and the time I started volunteering at Seniors’ Resource Center (SRC) I was the saddest lady on earth,” said Esther Weiner, Seniors’ Resource Center’s volunteer receptionist at Southwest Plaza Mall. “SRC has changed my quality of life and they mean the world to me.”

Esther cannot drive and has been using SRC’s transportation services for over eight years. If she couldn’t volunteer or receive rides from our services she would be stuck in her son’s basement all day staring at four walls. When she thinks about this, she jokes that you can only clean and do laundry for so long.

Shirley Sadowski, Coordinator of Southwest Plaza Mall for SRC greatly appreciates everything Esther does. She even gave Esther the responsibility of contacting 129 senior volunteers for SRC once a month. The seniors she contacts knit clothing for the homeless, help out within their churches, help their next-door neighbors, and help with many other vital services for seniors. All of these volunteers love Esther and look forward to her call every month. And in turn, Esther lets them know how much they are valued by SRC.

Esther volunteers three days a week now that it’s tax season. She sets up tax appointments for other seniors, answers basic questions and helps them with what documents they need to bring in.

“Esther is an expert when it comes to taxes because of her previous work experience,” Shirley said. ”She works at SRC from 9:30am until 2:30pm and would stay until we closed if she could. She truly is a wonderful woman.”

Esther immensely enjoys her job at SRC’s Southwest Plaza Mall location as a receptionist. She couldn’t be more grateful for everything that Shirley has done for her.

“I would be lost without SRC,” Esther said. “The drivers are fantastic and there are just no words to describe Shirley. She is out of this world; she has the patience of a saint, an open mind and loves what she does. She definitely has changed my outlook on life.”

SRC’s Southwest Plaza Mall is open Monday-Saturday: 9:30am-5:30pm and is located at 8116-G W Bowles Ave, Littleton, CO 80123 at the Northwest Entrance of the Mall. SRC’s SW Plaza offers a safe and convenient area for seniors to be dropped off and picked up by area transportation services. SW Plaza also offers free computer classes, caregiver support, referral services and social and educational programs. Drop-in and share some refreshments.
